Why New Launch ‘NOW TV’ Could Work For me…

The only thing that’s not quite awesome about the flat I currently live in (besides the super-expensive rent) is the fact that a massive line of trees behind the building means that we have no hope of getting Sky. We’ve made do with Freeview and various TV boxsets for now, along with LOVEFilm and Netflix, but on Monday night I went to the launch of something new – NOW TV.

Set up by Sky for non-subscription customers, NOW TV basically brings you all those Sky Movies films you want to watch and will soon also include Sky Sports, Sky Living and other channels, for on-demand programming via your laptop, iPad, and various other devices. Each subscription can be accessed via two devices at present, and means you can watch the channels ‘live’, as well as watching on-demand films and shows too.

I found out all the details at the London Film Museum on Monday evening, where Sky hosted a bloggers event, with a presentation and a ‘house’ set up with NOW TV in all the different rooms, including lots of iPads and phones to play with. It’s £15 a month, or 99p+ for pay as you go bits and bobs, and it seems like a smooth system. When more content is added to the lineup – it’s just movies right now – it’s sure to make even more of an impact against the likes of LOVEfilm and Netflix. The interface is smooth and easy to use, something that other platforms still seem to struggle with, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it progresses. I had lots of fun at the launch event trying it out, drinking some tasty mai tais, and sampling food from lobster rolls to sliders to mini pasties too. They’re doing a free trial at the mo, so you can see if it’s right for you.
